The 5 Royales (USA)
Right Around The Corner - Rare & Undiscovered Gems From The King Years
CD PRICE: £11.99
This CD includes 25 great tracks not found on other collections. A fantastic set of rare and obscure material recorded for King Records by one of the most revered R&B groups.
The Five Royales can justly lay claim to be amongst the founding fathers of soul music. Anybody familiar with James Brown's early recorded work (in the mid and late 50's) can be in little doubt that J.B. based his work almost entirely on what he heard and saw the Five Royales did at King Records.
This Cd features a fantastic set of rare and obscure material recorded for King Records by one of the most revered R&B groups; The Five Royales. |

Paul Gayten (USA)
Ain't Nothin' Happenin' - Cool Jump Blues 1947-57
CD PRICE: £11.99
The unsung Crescent City bandleader Paul Gayten made the first New Orleans R&B recordings of the post war era and had the first local hits there in 1947. As a producer, he was responsible for grooming hit singers such as Annie Laurie, Larry Darnell, Chubby Newsome, Bobby Charles and Clarence "Frogman" Henry and became an important individual in the Chess empire before forming his own label in the late 1960s. This thirty-track compilation traces the first half of his high-voltage career in the recording business and proves how necessary he was to the birth and development of New Orleans R&B and rock 'n' roll. |

Rudy Green (USA)
Wild Life
CD PRICE: £11.99
"In 1988, I was contacted by Jonas Bernholm to co-produce a Rudy Green LP for his "Whisky, Women, And..." subsidiary. Sixteen tracks were selected from Rudy's twelve issued singles and were sent for remastering, and the catalogue number was registered (KM-705), but the much-anticipated volume never materialised; the burgeoning CD revolution took off with a vengeance, Jonas decided to get out of the music business and the project was shelved. Now, this exciting El Toro LP finally makes available this legendary "lost album" which was planned over twenty years ago but never saw the light of day! " |

Thomas Ford & The Dirty Harmonys (UK)
Separation Street

OUR CD OF 2009!
Thomas Ford’s outstanding debut album ‘Separation Street’ was released in May 2009. The disc features World-class performances from Tom’s sister Becca Langsford on vocals and his brother Tim Langsford on drums. Other members include Vince Lee (guitar, lapsteel, ukulele, vocals) and Al Wallis (bass) from the internationally acclaimed blues & roots band - The Wildcards. The Excellos (UK)
The Excellos
CD PRICE: £9.99
This Rocks, make no mistake about it, this is hard, dirty and rockin, they literally stormed Hemsby late on the Saturday afternoon. What suprises me is that the album manages to capture the pure energy of the live set not all bands manage that. I know that there are some 45's available prior to this but this is the first CD album by the band. The album kicks off with a cover, one of only five out of the 15 tracks, I Got Love If you Want It, we are probably more familiar with the Warren Smith rockabilly bopper, but here we get a bluesier bopper complete with harmonica & heavy guitars and a superb bass chugging along. |

The Headcutters (BRAZIL)
Back To 50's

CD "Back To 50 '". This CD was recorded on every roll of tape for three nights at the Historical Museum of Itajai, Brazil with old vacuum tube equipment that lead the listener back to the 50s. Inspirations from Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Jimmy Rogers and others are very clear on this excellent blues disc. Joe Marhofer (Harmonica & Vocal), Ricardo Maca (Guitar & Vocal), Arthur ‘Catuto' Garcia (Bass), Leandro ‘Cavera' Barbeta (Drums). |

Hot Lips Page (USA)
Roll Roll Roll!
CD PRICE: £9.99
Beginning his promising rise to national fame in the late 1930s as a rival to that other trumpet-playing, gravel-voiced entertainer, Louis Armstrong, Hot Lips Page changed tack, jumping with both feet in the direction of the burgeoning R&B sound in the mid 1940s.
It was a move that was sure to offend all the serious jazz music fans, but it would endear him to all the low-brow jump-blues lovers – both then and now!
This CD celebrates those R&B years of the man who could have been King… |

Emil & The Ecstatics (SWEDEN)
Bit By Bit
CD PRICE: £10.99
Stockholm based Emil & The Ecstatics is nowadays a well-known name on the european roots scene. After countless festivals, clubs, and three full-length albums, the band has proved to be a force to reckon with. This, their third album “Bit By Bit”, consists of a number of original tunes in the midlands of blues & soul music without being to conservative for that matter. Take a trip to Hawaii in “The Hula” or perhaps a short visit to a 60..s horror screening in “The Spook”. Or what about a trip down “Highway 4”, Swedens own Chitlin Circuit?
Get ready for a cruel mix of roots music! |

The Fried Okra Band (DENMARK)
Black Cherry
CD PRICE: £9.99
Black cherry – the black music on which we’ve been fed since the very first encounter with the blues. The French say cheri for their loved ones - well this record hopefully goes to say it must be this love that is the inspiration for The Fried Okra Band.....
This is the first record featuring The Fried Okra Bands own songs. It’s a step away from the Mississippi Hill Country blues on the record This is your chance, France baby! ....
It is not as close to the tradition as the first record. Still the songs clearly bear witness to the bands blues inspiration and the hypnotic moods of the music of the Hill Country. ...
Mississippi is still very must present in the music as it is in the lyrics of Donuts and Devils. The tale of a young mans disappointing encounter with a mysterious man at The Crossroads outside Clarksdale in the Mississippi Delta. .... |

The Fried Okra Band (DENMARK)
This Is Your Chance, France Baby!
CD PRICE: £9.99
Well, Well, Well...
The blues of North Mississippi are surely the foundation of This is Your Chance, France Baby but the members of The Fried Okra Band are just as sure Copenhagen-born and raised. Yet the first album from the danish band consists of twelve tracks which salutes the Blues style that has sprung from the Hill Country in North Mississippi.
The album presents very personal interpretations of songs by such artist as R.L. Burnside and Robert Belfour among others. The band follows the line of one- or two chord songs played raw and with as much energy as possible. On top of that producer Jarno Varsted hasn'´t been afraid of adding a sampling, odd organs or just a weird noise here and there. And that's the point! The Fried Okra Band admires and respect the american artists but believes it is in their spirit to add a personal touch. The sound of the entire record is therefore raw and electric recorded partly live and partly in the studio.
Some would call this record Nu-Blues or alternative Blues, others just Blues in some form -– we don´t know, but as Mr. Burnside put it: Blues ain´t nothing but dance music!!! |
