The 20th Anniversary of the Wentus Blues Band from Finland was celebrated in Helsinki at the Alexander Theatre, originally built by Russian Czar Alexander II. The show, sweetened by various special guests, surely satisfied the Blues needs of performers and audience alike. The whole atmosphere was reminiscent of Martin Scorsese's "The Last Waltz" - a film that studied the giant concert given by The Band and superstar guests in San Francisco in 1976.
The show featured an impressive line-up of rock and blues legends, such as Eddie Kirkland, Louisiana Red and Lazy Lester, ex-Rolling Stone Mick Taylor, Kim Wilson from the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Omar Dykes from Omar & The Howlers, Barrence Whitfield - a real rocker in the savage style of Little Richard, Sven Zetterberg and Clas Yngström from Sweden and the great Eric Bibb. All of the above-mentioned guests have a long history with the Wentus Blues Band.
Family Meeting was filmed by the director Heikki Kossi, who gathered the best of filmmakers in Finland: Pro´s that has worked with legendary filmmakers like Aki Kaurismäki and Klaus Härö.
The Film tells a unique story about people behind music and it is about the family meeting of these musicians, where cotton and potato fields, joy, tolerance, and above all the immortal, shared moments within the Blues are intertwined. It's a delicious mash-up of backstage life and passionate stage performances.
Family Meeting is an excellent musicdocumentary that will have its Cinema release in Scandinavia this year.
It was a once in a life-time happening, a definite milestone, a stop on the road. Down the road we had met a lot of people who´s work we always had been admiring. We have always felt a strong relationship to these people. Like they have always been there, as a part of us, like a family. The 20 years of keeping a band together needed a celebration; a gathering, a Family meeting..

When the legendary Chicago bluesman PHIL GUY ( Brother of Buddy Guy ) came to Finland to tour with WENTUS BLUES BAND, one of the shows in Helsinki was recorded.
You might wonder how a blueslegend like PHIL GUY from Chicago and a bunch of Finns calling themselves the WENTUS BLUES BAND got together, and when you ask them they really don't know how either. One thing is definitely for sure, that the first shows they did together really gave them the hunger for some more, and at this point they play together every time Phil comes over to Europe. 'John Lee Hooker meets The Doors'... Keep that in mind and you'll know what kind of places 'Losing My Cool' will take you to. With their first full album, released on Naked Productions, Belgian band Voodoo Boogie presents twelve songs, all with traditional blues roots, but at the same time very much influenced by psychedelica, (garage) rock and world music. After several preproductions with top producers such as Jan Ieven (ex El Fish, ex The Rhythm Junks) and Marc T (TEE, The Electric Kings), Voodoo Boogie decided they were ready to produce their first full CD. Voodoo Boogie is not a traditional blues band. They prefer to describe their music as 'psychedelic boogiematic roots'. With that kind of stuff, no wonder they quickly developed into a band with an excellent live reputation, both in and around Belgium. Each time this exciting band performs, they create an ambience that will haunt you until long after the gig. The eight originals and four original interpretations of old blues songs on 'Losing My Cool' will do exactly the same thing, only off stage this time. Voodoo Boogie was born in 2004. Founding members Jan Jaspers and Gert Servaes previously played with blues bands like High Five Jive, Dizzy Dimples and Big Mama's Kitchen, and also backed up American artists, such as Louisiana Red and Keith Dunn. Bass player Rob Vanspauwen and drummer Gert Servaes are Voodoo Boogie's groove machine, or the perfect engin for a hypnotising trip with Wouter Haest on piano, hammond and rhodes, and Jan Jaspers on vocals and guitars.

Mitch Woods has been the torchbearer of a great American blues musical heritage, not for two years but two decades. Taking his inspiration from the great jump n' boogie outfits of the late 40s and early 50s, he breathes fresh life into the music that gave birth to rock n' roll.
Woods first album, Steady Date (Blind Pig Records) got hot reviews in 1984 and led to appearances at two San Francisco Blues Festivals, openings for the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Blasters, The Neville Brothers, and James Brown. By 1987, Woods was doing a six-country Europe tour highlighted by a rousing performance at the Belgium Rhythm and Blues Festival.
Seven years later on his album Solid Gold Cadillac (Blind Pig Records), Woods and his band were joined by Ronnie Earl, Charlie Musselwhite and the Roomful of Blues Horns. Woods himself was starting to become a guest star, appearing on that year's new releases by John Lee Hooker and John Hammond, and the boogie pianist headlined both the Amsterdam Blues Festival and the Montreal Jazz Festival.
In 2007 Mitch was nominated for Pinetop Perkins Piano Player of the Year Award at the Blues Awards in Memphis. Presented by the Blues Foundation this is one of the highest achievements a blues musician can earn.
It was during on of his European tours that Mitch Woods stoped by Barcelona city to team up with Spanish Jump Blues aces The Lazy Jumpers and record the 12 tracks of Jukebox Drive for El Toro Records.
Mitch Woods and The Lazy Jumpers sound on this new album as the jumpin' n' jivin', shoutin' n' honkin', pumpin' n' poundin' bands of the late 40' s and early 50' s; Louis Jordan, Wynonie Harris, Joe and Jimmy Liggins, Amos Milburn, Roy Milton... Adding a healthy dose of New Orleans rhythm and blues, piledrivin' piano, and some of his own contemporary playful lyrics.
Mitch will continue to tour worldwide with both his Rocket 88's and Big Easy Boogie and The Lazy Jumpers. In 2008 he will be appearing at some of the world's most prestigious music festivals, including Jazz A Vienne - France, San Javier International Jazz Festival - Spain, International Boogie Woogie Festival - Lugano, Switzerland, Lionel Hampton Jazz Club at Le Meridien - Paris, Edmonton Blues Festival - Canada, The Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise - Caribbean , Taiwan Blues Bash - Taiwan, and many, many more....
