Northern heart, Southern soul is a perfect way to describe the man behind the music on this brand new acoustic blues album!
This is BJ's new, looong over due solo project, to finally deal with all the songs he's written over the past few years, arranging, recording and releasing these songs on this CD!
But now it’s happened, a CD with 16 self-penned songs ready and waiting to find their way to friends and fans!
Johan Eliasson a.k.a. Bottleneck John hails from Jämtland, Sweden.
Mostly old-timey 1920's and 30's unpolished, raw delta, hokum & country blues stuff that
have been heard and felt by audiences on numerous tours, concerts and shows around Scandinavia and Europe..
BJ performs solo but also in duo's and even in full bands, playing blues festivals, clubs, concert halls, private concerts, churches, coffee houses, pubs or in the streets..
Anywhere where there's a need for real old blues.. Bottleneck John will be there!!
What better way to get your audience in the mood than with a set of laid back stuff from the Delta? Playing his beloved tin-cans in open tunings and has one foot pounding out the rhythm on the floorboards. Classic tunes from Robert Johnson, Charley Patton, Son House, Blind Willie Johnson, Skip James, Muddy Waters, Bukka White etc...
But just as often his own songs in the genre.
Lately it's been a constant travelling around to do gigs, solo and in bands. BJ's been playin' the blues around bluesfestivals and clubs all over Europe, from Kiruna, above the arctic circle, in the north to Calabria, Italy in the south..
Bottleneck John's music is reguarly featured on radio shows and blues programs all over the world, France, Italy, Finland, Holland, Germany, USA, the UK, Australia, Mexico, Belgium, Argentina and South-Africa to name a few... Several programs on Swedish national television SVT, as well as local TV shows. Norwegian national television and radio, NRK.
Some words about BJ's music in the media:
"..It's as if Son House's voice has come alive again.. Deeply moving.." -Don Hooper, Unplugged Records, USA.
"..The Van Gogh of European bluesmen.." -Roy Bainton, Blues Matters Magazine, UK.
"..Especially the traditional song ‘Didn’t My Lord Deliver Daniel’ evoked true emotion; as if Blind Willie Johnson’s silhouette suddenly appeared on the church walls.." -Marcie, Rootstime.be, Belgium.
"..Has to be some of the finest that Swedish blues can present when it comes to soulful and beautiful vocals.." -Freddy Toressen, Blues News, Norway.
"..The depth of soul in this man's voice is at the least stirring, and at the most.....entirely captivating.." -Soundclick.com, USA.
"..Desolate Mississippi blues, masterly performed.." -Mattias Pettersson, Länstidningen, Sweden.
"..You’ll return again and again to the ghostly tones of “Blind Willie’s tune” which effortlessly gives Ry Cooders “Paris, Texas” a good run for it’s money.." -Roy Bainton, Blues Matters Magazine, UK.
