The most northern rockabilly band from Germany has struck once again. This disc is their fourth album so far. Once more these 14 new tracks show their musical skill and their quality as songwriters.
'The Rockabilly combo The Greyhounds comes from the county “Schleswig Holstein” (Nordfriesland) – the deepest north of Germany – and therefore calls itself the (probably) “Most Northern Rock & Roll Band” of the german rockabilly scene. The band was built up in June 1997 by the main members from the former combo “The Boppin’ Passions”.
At that time still a trio, the boys started playing authentic rockabilly. Soon after their foundation they recorded their first 7“ single, released by the legendary “Rockabilly Record Company” of Willie Lewis from Denver /USA (R-504 / "Little Bop of baby"). Furthermore they recorded a vinyl LP called "Rockin’ By The Moon" in 1999 for the german label “Rebel Music” (LP RM 12001).
In autumn 1999 Nils Andersen joined the gang as additional rhythm guitar player to give the band’s sound a bigger and wilder volume. Thanks to this line up change, mainly having played authentic rockabilly so far, the new formation developed more and more their very own style: A great mixture of Neo Rockabilly, classic Rock ’n’ Roll, authentic Rockabilly and Hillbilly.
Herbert Stäcker, whose roots are mainly into the Neo Rockabilly sounds of the eighties, started to write new own songs in exactly this style and therefore the guys got a huge fan following in their area (and later on in whole Germany). The new style and sound required a new name for the band: The Greyhounds were born.
From now on it went precipitously uphill. In 2002 appeared the first longplayer CD of the four musicians from the "deep north of Germany“: The album "Nightlife" was published by PART RECORDS (PART CD 645.001) and made the combo popular all over Europe, reaching also Rock & Roll music lovers all over the world.
Concerts all over Europe followed, for example the “Rock 'n' Roll Weekender Walldorf” (Germany) and the “Streets Nationals” in Hamburg (Germany). Playing concerts together with many international top acts like the “Texabilly Rockets”, the “Rockabilly Mafia” and “Runnin’ Wild” they also have supported the american Rock 'n' Roll bands “Slick Fitty” and “Slim Jim Phantom” (ex “Stray Cats”) on their tours over the years .
In 2005 the four “Dog Boys” recorded their 2nd studio album named „We Call It Rare Rock 'n' Roll“ (PART RECORDS, Part CD 645.002). Thanks to the great cooperation regarding the debut CD “Nightlife” the new release came out on Part Records (Germany), too.
After many more club and festival gigs as well as some line up changes the boys finally recorded their third studio longplayer (and fourth album in total) in 2009 titled “Story Of Our Life” which will come out in 2010 – once again on Part Records (Part-CD 645-003) – and includes fourteen brandnew hot rockin’ tracks (featuring nine originals and five cover versions).
Bandleader Herbert Stäcker:
„We don’t want to get pressed into any box and therefore the Greyhounds play a little bit of everything. Our music program reaches from classic 50’s Rock & Roll over 80’s Neo Rockabilly to Hillbilly and Country. That´s the meaning of our band – that’s what Rock & Roll and our music is all about!”
What more can we say than just….get you a copy right now and…. LET’S ROCK THIS JOINT TONITE!!
