MATTER OF FACT (AND FICTION)
Giving a contemporary twist to a fusion of country and rockabilly sounds has shaped Jacen Bruce’s third release, The Siren. The 14 tracks showcase his song writing ability, taking the listener from exuberance to pathos and back again. Each song is highlighted by striking guitar solos and memorable melody lines.
“Some of the song have been inspired by experience, others by imagination” Jacen explains. “We took the theme 14 songs of fact and fiction. Each song is a story in its own right.” With this in mind the album has been designed with each song title appearing as a pulp-style book cover.
The final result is a beautifully designed digi-pak and fourteen tracks, each one as good as the next.
UK Rock magazine review September 2010
Lovers’ Lane setting the tone for the album with a distinctive but not commercial groove...
Dimple Whisky a really evocative piece of Americana... The diversity (of the album) kept me entertained.
Milkcow magazine review December 2010
The Siren album is packed full of fresh, modern sounding Rockabilly with a distinct Country tinge
and even a light summery jazzy feel on some tracks... so if you fancy something a little different then check this one out,
you'll know whodunnit from the start, but it doesn't make the listening any less interesting.
'Exciting and Contagious', 'Fresh, Accomplished and Fun', 'Pulp Fiction meets West Side Story', 'All the elements of a great story unfolding.''

Review from The Musician Summer 2011
Journal of The Musicians' Union theMU.org
"Cool as ice rockabilly for the 21st century "
Floor-filling, toe tapping wonderment from Ely's country/rockabilly star Jacen Bruce, who alongside his wife and crime writer Alison Bruce, has composed '14 tracks of fact and fiction'.
After gaining initial experience with The Midnight Shift and Jacen And The Rockanauts, 2008 found the front man forming The Memphis Underground and the expertise of guitarist Rick Turner, drummer Len Black, bassist Kurt Replais and the keys of Rich Young are present throughout this entertaining and lovingly produced CD. While echoing 50's kingpins Elvis, Buddy Holly and Eddie Cochran, Bruce has developed his own way with a cool. swinging style and keeps the rock'n'roll flame alight for another generation.
