More than a pastiche.... a genuine artist who just happens to sound like his daddy.... Mud Morganfield is a natural performer, at ease and full of fun."
Fred Rothwell, Blues and Rhythm magazine (UK)
With one sold out UK tour under his belt, Mud Morganfield the eldest son of Muddy Waters perhaps the most famous blues legend of them all, flew into Jersey from Chicago for a series of four exclusive gigs in May 2008. After three sell out shows at some of the island's premier music venues, Mud Morganfield then performed his fourth and final show at The Drift Bar in the new multi-million pound Royal Yacht Hotel. Of the nearly 400 strong audience many had returned from the previous shows to catch him one last time before he jetted back to Chicago. That amazing audience reaction and the red hot blues played that night are captured on this new nine track album.
The album sees Mud perform a mixture of his dad's songs and his own originals. "The music on my debut studio album, "Fall Waters Fall" was mainly my own original material" says Mud "but with this live album we're showcasing a little more of my dad's material. I started to sing to show the world that dad left me here. I love and am proud to sing his songs just like I love and and will always be proud of him. I'm not Muddy Waters and I'm certainly not trying to be Muddy Waters. I'm Mud Morganfield but when I'm up on stage I always feel pops is there with me and it means so much that I can get on stage and keep his music alive around the world."
Mud is backed by Jersey's very own The Dirty Aces, who thamselves have have also been touring the UK to some high acclaim from both famous blues musicians and top blues magazines. Mud says of the band: "I was totally blown away by the band, about how they could play my pops and my original stuff so well. It's a very rare thing to be able to do and it was a really outstanding tour for me. They are great players and also my friends."
So kick back and enjoy some fine Chicago Blues from the son and proud heir of the man who was its king. As Mud says, "I'm so proud of this album - I've been playing it to my friends in Chicago and they've been jumping up and down. I'd like to thank the people of Jersey who made me feel so much at home and to dig deep into my soul and sing the blues. That breat Jersey audience is with me there on the album and as you can hear we're all having one hell of a party together!"
Based on Jersey in the Channel Islands, close to the coast of France. The Dirty Aces have been cooking up quite a storm with their filthy and tough harmonica and guitar led blues. Winning new fans at every gig and converting many new music lovers to blues fandom, the Dirty Aces always have the joint dancing by the end of the night. Whether playing Jazz festivals, blues bars or house parties the Dirty Aces convey to people the power and spirit of unrestrained low down blues.
Still all under 30, The Dirty Aces play with an emotional power that goes beyond their age. As harmonica great Sugar Blue has said of their work " I dig you and what you do!!! Great harp and guitar!!! You cats play like you mean it!! "
PRAISE FOR THE DIRTY ACES:
I dig you and what you do!!! Great harp and guitar!!! You cats play like you mean it!!
Sugar Blue (Grammy Award Winner)
Superb no-nonsense, gritty R&B. Giles Robson has a great and urgent voice with an appealing cry at the end of certain words. Filip Kozlowski lays down choppy and insistent guitar riffs, bringing to mind The Hoax at their brilliant best.
Blues Matters (UK's award winning, most read blues magazine)
The Dirty Aces are so filthy that they probably curdle the milk of the cows in their native Jersey....cuts like Dollar and a Quarter suggest these boys have aces up their sleeves.
Classic Rock Magazine
Hurrah for The Dirty Aces!
Tom Robinson, BBC6 Music
..high energy....dirty, rough and ready Chicago blues...the band have the style nailed... this is a band well worth catching...
Blueprint Magazine
If you like blues, rock and plenty of originality, look no further than these aces...... Raw and dirty sounds, ace delivery.... Robson happens to sing like a blues hero of mine -- the late, great Rory Gallagher.
Alan Candy - Luton Today
...harmonica virtuoso.....one of the finest harmonica players around...
Blueprint magazine
Chicago blues, and it's played with a passion and maturity which is way beyond their age.
Roots Time, Belgium
Definitely ones to watch!
Phil Jackson, Blues In The South
Blistering gob iron....scorching guitar...a band that have found a solid groove. Time to get off the island and set mainland towns alight.
Fatea Magazine
Love it! Big rockin harp sound, tight band underneath--I'd be dancing on the bar."
Richard Hunter
Leading composer and performer of music for the harmonica
and author of the world famous book "Jazz Harp"
"Blues played with controlled passion and perfection. The Dirty Aces show that they can play, they show they can write and they sure show they can feel the blues".
