Using rockabilly legends like Johnny Burnette, Charlie Feathers, and Carl Perkins as starting points, the Roy Kay Trio are a drumless rockabilly band that manages to be perfectly rhythmic with just an acoustic guitar, an electric one, and an upright bass.
Since the trio was formed in 2001, they have released three full length albums, Wanderin' Mind (2002), produced by Deke Dickerson, recorded by Kearney Barton, Knockin' Em Back (2004), produced by Ashley Kingman, recorded by Wally Hersom and Rock-a-way Lonesome Moon (2006), recorded by Axel Praefcke, produced by Axel and the Roy Kay Trio.
The trio has also played live in many countries on two European tours, plus appearances at these international festivals, Rockabilly Rave (UK, 2005), High Rockabilly (Spain, 2003), Hemsby (UK, 2005), Viva Las Vegas (US 2003), Green Bay's Rockin' 50's Fest (US 2005), Waldorf Weekender (Germany 2005), Berlin's Rock 'n roll Firestorm (Germany 2005), Amsterdam's D-Day (NL 2004), Wild, Wild, Wild (2004) and many Northwest festivals including KEXP's Rockabilly Ball (2003-2004), both of Washington's Folklife Festivals (2004-2005) and at Vancouver Canada's BBQ Bop (2002 thru 2005).
The trio plays rockabilly, hillbilly bop and early country and always has a good time doin' it.
